COVID 19

Alfred Health has extensive processes in place to safely assess and manage any patients with viral infections, including novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus not previously identified in people and has respiratory symptoms like a sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath.

As part of our response to managing the coronavirus outbreak, the Department of Health has put restrictions on visitors, and the Alfred currently has a no visitation policy, except in extenuating circumstances.  All staff and visitors are now mandated to wear masks in the hospital.  Through our hospital screening processes you will be provided guidance on when patients and staff should get tested for COVID-19. As such, many patients in ICU will move in and out of isolation rooms, while waiting for COVID-19 test results, due to our high level of caution.
